Karan Oberoi's Sister Vani Breaks Down After Meeting Him In Lock-Up: "It's A Nightmare. My Parents Are Calling Up, Repeatedly"

Vani Oberoi lashes out at the woman who has accused her brother Karan (TV actor) of rape. Vani spoke to SpotboyE.com on Monday night, after returning from Oshiwara Police Station where her brother is locked up.

Can you recount everything that you know about what all happened between Karan and the girl in question?

About 2 years ago, my brother called me one day and said that a woman was harassing him no end. I went across to meet him and he looked very upset. He started off by saying, "I don't know what to do about it." I offered that I should talk to her.

Why?
As we were talking, she was calling him continuously. I don't know how many times she must have called. We then went on the FaceBook and I wanted to see her. After that, I took one of her calls to him and started talking to her.

What did she say?
She said I didn't know anything and added that she wondered why she was talking to me instead of Karan. I calmly explained to her: You can't force anybody to love you. If it has to happen, it will happen. Give him a break. And then, she started laughing. She said: He is hiding behind you and I didn't know he's such a kid.


And then?
She cursed me out, with loads of gaalis added.

I told Karan that he better have CCTV cameras installed at his door outside. It was a precaution that I felt needed to be taken (pauses).

Then, October 2018, Karan called me to say that the girl had made an NC against him, accusing him for extortion. We decided that we should also file a NC against her, complaining of harassment.

My point is that if she was raped before that, why didn't she complain at the time of her NC only?

When did you get to know that Karan had been charged of rape?
On Saturday night, I got a call from Karan that she's accusing him of rape.

The woman is lying. It's a very calculated charge.


How did Karan and the woman meet?
They met on s social networking site.

Was there any intimacy between Karan and the woman?
Not at all.

Have you met this woman?
She was only a friend. I have met everyone in his life. She was the only one whom I hadn't.


Was Karan picked up by the cops from his residence?
No. Saturday, the cops called him. They told him that they were only questioning him. They said they will let him go by Sunday 8 am. Suddenly, Karan was told that the girl had filed a FIR. After that, he was put behind bars.

Did you go on Saturday to the police station?
Of course, I did. But after a point when I was told that they will leave him by Sunday morning, I came back.

It's the biggest shock of my life.

How have your parents taken it
They are in Chandigarh. They are calling up, repeatedly.


Are they coming to Mumbai?
No, I have stopped them. They are old. My Dad is not in the best of health.

You broke the news of Karan's arrest to them on phone?
Nope. I called up a friend in Chandigarh and asked him to go and break the news to them.

We know of only Mona Singh being a part of his life...
Yeah, but he was a bachelor. I am sure he had his share of flings after that. But he is not someone who will force himself upon anybody. It is really absurd. You can't mess up someone's life like this.


Once he gets out of this, I will put some charges against her. I will fight back. She has to pay for what she has done. She can't defame people.

You have just met him. Sorry to ask you this but can you tell us his state?
Right now, he's quite a bit sorted since many people have come and met him. But until now, it was a nightmare for him. He was breaking down.

The bail is not going to be on 9th when the court proceedings begin. We cannot push for the bail on that day itself. I have a good lawyer. My family and I need to build up the case correctly. It's torture, just torture. Had it not been for my husband's support, I wouldn't have survived.
